We collect and process personal information only where necessary to deliver our charitable activities. This includes enabling us to:

- undertake evaluation and research connected to our charitable purposes

What information we collect
Personal information may include names, email addresses, telephone numbers, job titles and other contact details provided as part of grant applications, enquiries, reports, or related correspondence.
If you provide personal data about other individuals within an application or enquiry, you are responsible for ensuring that you have their permission to share this information with us.
How we use your information
We will only use personal information for administration, evaluation and research purposes to facilitate our grant making and further our charitable activities.
Personal contact information will not be made public in any way.
Lawful basis for processing
Under UK data protection law, our lawful bases for processing personal data are:
- Legitimate interests, in administering grants and carrying out our charitable activities
- Legal obligation, where processing is required to comply with charity, tax or other laws
Sharing your information
We do not share personal information with third parties unless:
- you have been informed and given express consent, or
- we are required to do so by law (for example with HMRC or law enforcement agencies), or
- depositing limited materials in the Foyle Foundation archive, as explained below
Foyle Foundation Archive
Upon the closure of the Foyle Foundation in 2025/26, some materials will be deposited with the University of Kent, Philanthropy Archive as part of its Special Collections.
Materials selected for deposit will be assessed as being of continued public interest for research purposes. Only limited personal data will be included. Access to collections containing personal information will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the University of Kent, in line with guidance from The National Archives and the Information Commissioner’s Office and applying the principle of data minimisation to prevent substantial damage or distress to individuals.
Researchers accessing these collections will be advised to comply with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 when using University of Kent collections.
How long we keep your information
We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, including legal, accounting, reporting, and archival requirements.

After April 2026
Please note that the Foyle Foundation is in the process of closing down (expected to be completed by April 2026), after which the Foyle Foundation will no longer retain any files or data. Data that is required for the liquidation process will be passed to our Liquidator, RSM UK. And any materials that are of continued public interest will be deposited with the University of Kent, Special Collections.
