Please note that The Foyle Foundation was placed into Members’ Voluntary Liquidation on 9 June 2026 and Terence Guy Jackson and Matthew Haw of RSM UK Restructuring Advisory LLP were appointed as Joint Liquidators. The Joint Liquidators act as agents of the company and without personal liability. Note that Members’ Voluntary Liquidation is a solvent process.

The charity has ceased operating and the website is being maintained for information purposes only, to preserve details of the charity’s history, work and legacy.

The charity no longer holds any data.

During Operation, 2000 to 2026

The Foyle Foundation was committed to protecting your personal data and respecting your privacy during its years of operation (2000 to 2026). This notice explains how we collected, used, stored and protected personal information provided to us in connection with our grant-making and charitable activities.

Why we collected personal information

We collected and processed personal information only where necessary to deliver our charitable activities. This included enabling us to:

  • assess and administer grant applications and enquiries
  • manage and monitor grants awarded
  • undertake evaluation and research connected to our charitable purposes
  • comply with our legal and regulatory obligations

We only collected the minimum amount of personal information required for these purposes.

What information we collected

Personal information included names, email addresses, telephone numbers, job titles and other contact details provided as part of grant applications, enquiries, reports, or related correspondence.

How we used your information

We only used personal information for administration, evaluation and research purposes to facilitate our grant making and further our charitable activities.

Personal contact information was not made public in any way.

Lawful basis for processing

Under UK data protection law, our lawful bases for processing personal data were:

  • Legitimate interests, in administering grants and carrying out our charitable activities
  • Legal obligation, where processing is required to comply with charity, tax or other laws

Sharing your information

We did not share personal information with third parties unless:

  • you were informed and gave express consent, or
  • we were required to do so by law (for example with HMRC or law enforcement agencies), or
  • it was necessary for liquidation process, or
  • depositing limited materials in the Foyle Foundation archive, as explained below

Foyle Foundation Archive

Upon the closure of the Foyle Foundation in 2025/26, some materials were deposited with the University of Kent, Philanthropy Archive as part of its Special Collections.

Materials selected for deposit were be assessed as being of continued public interest for research purposes.  Only limited personal data was included. Access to collections containing personal information will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the University of Kent, in line with guidance from The National Archives and the Information Commissioner’s Office and applying the principle of data minimisation to prevent substantial damage or distress to individuals.

Researchers accessing these collections will be advised to comply with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 when using University of Kent collections.
